Lipstick Mondays: Beyond the Classic Red

As J mentioned in one of her previous posts, we are loving Sephora’s Virtual Artist as any lipstick-loving person would. Typically I’m all about the classic red, especially during the colder months. The summertime-me dabbles with fuchsia on occasion, but nothing is more universal and flattering than a classic shade of red in my opinion.

Virtual Artist opened me up to so many different shades that I would never think of trying (ahem, purple).  I was having a great time with the wine and plum family (see below) and many recommendations were Kat Von D.

Well played, Sephora. I found myself in your store the next day after a night of virtually trying on lipstick. The Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid was recommended but I’m not a big fan of liquid lipstick.  I opted for KVD’s Studded Kiss Lipstick in Bauhau5. It’s a deep plum shade perfect for winter. Studded Kiss Bauhau5 is a deeper shade than its Everlasting Liquid counterpart with the same name. The liquid version is much brighter.

I am not a huge fan of the Studded Kiss line: it is very, very matte. I struggled a bit applying as it doesn’t go on smooth. In its defense, it does last pretty long (even through your first or third cup of morning coffee), but any dryness on your lips will show. Before applying your lipstick, exfoliate your lips and rub in some of your daily moisturizer. I have a separate toothbrush for scrubbing my lips in the winter.

For a less expensive (not as matte) option, try Cover Girl’s Lip Perfection in Euphoria. It’s worth the $8 and the color is similar.
