A couple of weeks ago, squished into the back of yet another uber (hey, I didn’t earn my VIP title by chance) with two friends, one remarked that she needed to get to a Sephora before closing because she needed a new foundation — and did I happen to have one? She’d heard Armani Luminous Silk was great, and had also read some good reviews about Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer. Well. First of all, C wasn’t impressed with the Armani foundation (and she knows her foundations) and, second of all, some of us need a little more help than tinted moisturizer affords, if you catch my drift.
Drift being caught, let me tell you the foundation I have been so obsessed with for the past year that I actually have three bottles — one at my apartment, one at my boyfriend’s apartment, and one at my parents’ apartment. Essentially, three bottles scattered across Brooklyn. Yes, that is how great Maybelline’s Fit Me is. I first read about it in a round-up of makeup artists’ skin picks (I think on the Coveteur?) and decided I should try it as about HALF of the artists interviewed named it among their go-tos.
And it is GOOD. Like really good. Since I first bought it in winter, and have dry skin even in the summer, I went with the Dewy + Smooth formula. It goes on like a dream, almost like putting on moisturizer, but with medium coverage — none of this ‘tinted’ crap — and doesn’t settle into fine lines or dry up around blemishes. No cracking nor looking flakey mid-day and, perhaps most importantly, no breakouts as a result of wearing it, something that many a product has caused (looking at you, Maybelline Whipped Dream Matte Mousse). To boot, my skin looks even and, yes, a bit dewy after applying, though I should note the dewy-ness doesn’t last all day. If matte is more your thing, or if you have oily skin to begin with, perhaps try the Matte + Poreless formula, which I cannot attest to, but I imagine must be somewhat great if in the Fit Me line.
So if you’re in the market for a new foundation, seriously do yourself a favor and pick up a bottle. At under $10, this is a no brainer.
