|The scene backstage at Christian Siriano|
Not even a blizzard named Nemo could keep C and I away when Aveda invited us behind the scenes at New York Fashion Week to watch hair magic unfold. We popped backstage at the Christian Siriano F/W 2013 show, where the inspiration was the Russian golden age (Anna Karenina opulence comes to mind). Translated into hair that meant one thing: a romantic, but sophisticated, take on the classic braid.

The hair team, led by Aveda Global Creative Director Antoinette Beenders, twisted models’ hair into a crown of braids that skimmed along the back of their necks. And can I just comment how crazy and unbelievable the speed at which this all happens is? Models were popping back and forth from hair to makeup (from MAC) in a small, crowded, hot space, but the makeup artists and hairstylists were totally in their element, moving at lightening speed. Color me impressed. The Aveda team was kind enough to explain how the ‘do was, er, done, so you can do it on your own. Brave enough to try? Steps are below; just make sure to have a lot of the brand’s Air Control Hairspray on hand:
P.S. The runway show, full of black and gold, and one especially amazing sequin gown, was to-die-for. Clearly Christian has been to south Brooklyn.
