Fall is (Finally) Coming! Let’s Meet Smashbox’s New Image Factory Line

My dream fall blush.

The summer is finally nearing its end, which means a lot of great things: Leather jackets and boots and scarves and hats. Less tourists all over the city that walk slowly and clog sidewalks. Less disgusting weather (here’s hoping it doesn’t stay hot until November). Halloween candy. Hot coffee and gloves. And so on. But most importantly, C and I are excited for the new fall makeup collections. I know C especially loves her dramatic lips, and can’t wait to buy 27 different shades of this season’s dark wine color. Personally, I’m more excited for berry cheeks and heavily-lined eyes  — we can pretend I didn’t do that all summer anyway — atop clean, matte skin.

The perfect black liner? Signs point to si.
So naturally, I was super excited to see Smashbox, favorite of many a makeup artist, come out with its new Image Factory line for fall. I’m selfishly hoping that, as per usual, my brother gets me a Sephora gift card for my birthday next month, with which I’m immediately ordering Smashbox’s Waterproof Shadow Liner. Basically, it’s a foolproof pen that offers soft definition in one quick step—smudge as a liner or blend as a shadow for radiant, all-over color. It’s getting great reviews on Sephora.com, and one can never have too many smudgy  liners, anyway. And of course, I’m getting it in black. Paired with the line’s new Airbrush Whipped Cheek Color in Berry Bliss (a really pretty bold pink) and a pale lip, this is going to be my new default fall look. Now you know.

Don’t be fooled: This is fuschia!

I will say I was slightly curious to try the season’s new wine lip, too, and decided to go the sensible route and try a stain first. Meet Revlon’s Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Smitten, a color that looked like a deep berry in the store. Ha! Once applied, it definitely comes out a  more neon– and obviously reads more summer than fall, but I have to say I’m impressed with the line itself. The color really stays on and doesn’t dry out on you — it even has a pleasant minty scent. And the more you layer on, the brighter it gets, but still won’t run into your lip lines. So at least until the summer is officially over (winter, I can almost see you- please hurry!), I’ll be wearing this little guy.
