It’s Getting Glossy in Here: L’Oreal’s Infallible and Avon’s Glow

 Looking harmless

Any time I have to pick up a prescription or something else boring in Duane Reade, I reward myself by buying a new toy. It makes the trip seem more fun. Oh I need to get sunscreen and Advil, but clearly that means I get a new lipstick, too. Try it, I highly recommend this method. So anyway, one of my latest purchases was L’Oreal Infallible Never Fail Lipgloss in Bloom, a shimmery pink neutral that Allure recommended, which looked like it would look great on everyone. And, at first, I did like it. It was the right amount of shimmer and, as Allure had warned, it was sticky after application, perhaps the “glue” that makes the ‘Infallible’ just so infallible. So, basically, it’s super smooth as you’re putting it on, then dries up a bit so that when you pucker, your lips are on a time delay coming apart. But the color lasted well into my workday, so I was like, sure, I can deal with some stickiness for the sake of a color that lasts. And then I wore it again.

Which is when my lips got itchy, not at all like the first time. I’m not sure if it was some sort of allergy that developed, but let’s just say that was my second and also last time of wearing the gloss. An alternative I’ve been rocking in recent weeks: Avon’s Glow Lip Gloss in Sunset, which glides on so smooth and stays that way, giving the perfect hint of color and shine (see pic).
Juuuuust enough color

It’s not uber-longlasting, so you will need to reapply, but at $7, whatever. It’s actually part of Avon’s larger Glow Collection (see below) that also includes bronzers and colored liners which are intended to enhance your summer tan.

Glow collection … not to be confused with J Lo’s Glow perfume.

I don’t really have a tan to speak of, but look for (the very tan) C’s review of the line’s effectiveness soon.
