Holiday Gift Guide 2011

BD Holiday Party 2011: Oh so sparkly

It’s Brooklyn Dolls’ favorite time of year. We just had an awesome holiday party (see above), despite some technical difficulty and a brigade of drunk Santas greeting our guests upon arrival. The desserts, dance party and photos with (our own) Santa made for a pretty memorable evening. And now we get to share with you our top 3 holiday gift picks – in no particular order. Hope you have your notepads handy!

Bath and Body Works: Perfect for mom

Bath & Body Works continues to make its way under the tree year after year. In junior high, we would make known to our friends our favorite B&B scent (C: Cucumber Melon! J: Sun-Ripened Raspberry!) to ensure we got exactly what we wanted. This year, the brand has launched the Paris Amour Collection, which smells as good as it sounds. Think floral-y and fruity, but not overwhelming or grandma-like (not that grandma-like is necessarily a negative). See more on the scent in J’s review here. Bath and Body Works is also known for its clever packaging, which it steps up even more around the holidays: The martini shaker filled with travel-sized lotions and gels is a personal favorite of C from 2010. B&B managed to even step up its gifting game and packaged Paris Amour (as well as other signature scents) in the Splish Splash Gift Set. For $30, you get a shower gel, body lotion, fragrance spray, body cream, sponge and plastic glittery tub-shaped container. Not too shabby. The packaging is perfect for your bathroom counter display, or at least to put out and look all fancy when guests come over. The variety of products and cute packaging makes this gift perfect for mom, or an aunt or cousin. Go get.

Make Up For Ever: Perfect for a friend (um, or yourself)

If you have a friend you really like (most of us have atleast one or two), then Make Up For Ever’s Wild and Chic Best of Make Up For Ever Kit ($55) is the perfect gift. Fans of the blog know we are huge MUFE fans to begin with, and this set has a little piece of some the brand’s best products, including HD Microfinish Powder (which sets foundation while also giving you a really subtle glow), black Aqua Eyes liner (one of J’s favorites), and cult favorite MUFE HD Microperfecting Primer. Throw in a universally flattering pink lip gloss, black mascara, and taupe cream shadow, and you got yourself a pretty great gift set. In fact, you might as well just keep it for yourself.
Smashbox: Perfect for you!
Now that we’ve covered what to get your female relatives and your friend(s), here’s what you need to buy yourself! We’re pretty much obsessed with Smashbox’s Masters Class 9 Custom Color Set. Yes, the name is a mouthful, but for good reason. In this set (priced at $60, valued at $175) you have eye shadow trio, cream eye liner, two lip glosses, a lip pencil, waterproof eye liner pencil, blush/bronzer compact. Anyone who has worn (and loves) Smashbox knows these are some precious gems. The set comes in light, medium and dark–making this set perfect for every skin tone, so there’s no excuse not to buy. And any pieces of the set you don’t like could be turned into the “little extra gift” (aka stocking stuffer) for a friend.

Happy Holidays!
