The High(light) Life

(Starbucks did not sponsor this post.)

So Smashbox recently released the Halo Highlighting Wand, its answer to YSL’s ever-popular Touche Eclat. Much like Touche Eclat, Smashbox’s highlighting stick comes in a click-up pen and can be dabbed on cheekbones, cupid’s bow, browbones–anywhere you want to reflect some light and bring out bone structure (and, sure, who doesn’t?). But unlike Touche Eclat, it hasn’t started to smell weird after a couple of weeks. And unlike Touche Eclat, the formula is a bit more sheer and doesn’t really deposit a “color” when applied, just a sheer, pinky, pearly shimmer (or a golden one, I’d think, if you get the Gold version). Now, maybe I was using the wrong shade of Touche Eclat, as I know they make more versions of it now than when I first bought one years ago, but I doubt it, as I got it at the YSL counter in Saks, and one would think they’d be on point. And I know everyone raves about it, but color me not that impressed. But I’m getting off topic; I apologize.

Anyway, the Smashbox pen is more to my liking and I think the sheer gleam of it is universally flattering, especially since I’m totally pale again and it doesn’t look too shiny or ghostly. It just imparts a lovely bit of illumination. Kind of genius. Also, the brush is wide, so you can really blend well and not worry about applying too much. Smashbox, you have my highlighting wand vote.
