The squiggle on a notepad: always a reliable testing method
Like any makeup fan worth their weight in lipstick would be, I was thrilled with the arrival of the annual Allure “Best of Beauty” issue. It’s like Christmas (or Chanukah) coming in the mail, minus the getting of gifts and instead having to go buy a new slew of products after narrowing down the “best of” products I obviously need. But these are details. There are pages and pages of products that the editors have tested year-round and chosen as the creme de la creme. Granted, some winners are on the list each year, like Nars blush, and others I don’t even agree with, like the inclusion of Maybelline Volume Express Falsies mascara as best mascara. I mean, it’s good, but it’s not best.
Anyway, there was also a special drugstore beauty (which you know C and I are all about) section that recommended Wet N’ Wild’s Idol Eyes Creme Shadow Pencil. These sticks are only $1.99 so naturally there’s no reason NOT to try them. And the Brooklyn Dolls have loved Wet N’ Wild forever, so we’re not ones to hesitate when it comes to the brand. I picked up one in graphite– the mag also recommended a pearly white one– and, well let me tell you. They are pretty darn good. Super blendable and while a bit too thick for the bottom lid (unless you want to look like Taylor Momsen), the pencil is perfect for the top lid, where it creates a bold line that can be left as a line, or blended into a shimmery charcoal shadow. Doesn’t last all day, but for $1.99, does it matter? So go get your own. Done.
