All I Want for Christmas is the Perfect Moisturizer

I’d like to talk about a product I’ve had a very volatile relationship with: moisturizer. My skin is extremely irritable, breaks out at even the thought of a change in weather, and packs that perfect combo of dryness in some spots, breakouts in others, and- my favorite- fine lines sprinkled throughout.

That being said, I have tried what feels like dozens upon dozens of moisturizers. Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture is great during the warmer months, but gave up quickly back in the Ithacan winters of college, when my skin would literally flake off like bad dandruff. Sorry for the visual. Same goes for Cetaphil and Olay Complete (which wins best smell, ps). They just don’t pack that mid-winter punch. Eucerin Everyday Protection made breakouts worse and don’t even get me started on fancier brands, including La Mer (no, I didn’t buy my own, I borrowed from my mom’s jar), which pretty much always have led me back to pimpleville. I’ve had some luck with Aveeno Positively Radiant, which I’ve been using the past year or so with, more recently, a side dose of Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle, Anti-Blemish Cream, but as it’s gotten colder this past month or so, I find THE FLAKES coming back. And my skin’s new thing, because apparently it hates me, is going through a mid-20s breakout crisis. My derm gave me a mini-sample of Aveeno Ultra-Calming, which I’m going to try as well, but to be honest, I’d love something that also packs some anti-aging punch.

Dear readers, please help. You’ve heard my plea: a moisturizer that stands up to the January cold that doesn’t cause breakouts and does prevent fine lines. Is that too much to ask? It might be. C, I know you like H2O, but I need oil-free. Any other ideas? Reader recommendations are more than welcome. My skin, and heart of hearts, will thank you.
