Loyal followers (hi!) of the blog will remember that I have long hair that doesn’t like to be tamed. It’s thick and can get unruly and I’m always on the lookout for new products to help it look its frizz-free best that I know is (sometimes) possible. Which is why I got so excited upon seeing Herbal Essence’s new Tousle Me Softly line, which promised perfect, soft waves, atleast per the commercial featuring one young lady rocking out to her newly-flowing, tousled tendrils. Sold!
So clearly, being the sucker I am, I headed over to Duane Reade to pick up a purple bottle of the Tousle Me Softly Tousling Spray Gel. I sprayed it into my damp hair, as directed, put it up into a tight bun and went to sleep. I woke up and… curls? Really? There were some waves, but also curls, and not just curls but little rings of all different sizes, some banana ones, some tightly-wound small ones. I’m pretty sure that’s not the point of the gel, as they also make a line just for curls, called Totally Twisted. Ok, I figured, maybe I wasn’t supposed to put my hair up. So I gave it another shot a few nights later, leaving my hair down after applying and… nothing. I mean, my hair is naturally wavy, so, ok, there was some waviness, but also frizz and dryness. Not exactly what I was looking for, Herbal Essences.
So, let’s just say I’m not really a fan. It does smell great, as all Herbal Essences products do, but my hair was not tousled softly. It was curled, and then it was sort of frizzed. I know they often recommend using the full line of products to get the desired effect- shampoo, mousse, etc- but I’m good with stopping here. I do have a nice new roomspray, though.
