Oooh What’s in the Box?

We’re approaching that special time of the year. You might recall from last. When fun is forced upon you by way of the office holiday party, when waiting in lines is not only a test of strength but tests your ability to hold onto any social niceties you might have left, and of course when family time becomes a little too aggressive. Happy Holidays! Despite all this, fun could still be had in giving and receiving the perfect gifts. I know this sounds somewhat materialistic. Oh well. I personally love to give self-made gift baskets for every occasion. You can fill up the basket with your fave products (ok or the gift recipient’s) and everyone is happy. A lip gloss here, a shadow there. However, your bill at Duane Reade could get real long, real fast. (Word to the wise- sign up for a Duane Reade store card. Every $100 you spend you get $5 off your next purchase. Done.)

The alternative to the individually-priced pieces is the beauty gift set. Normally I don’t recommend sets as you may want only one or two colors in the palette and the rest feel like a waste. But in terms of holiday gifting, these sets really are quite a bargain. Sephora has many gifting options around this time. Sets are typically valued a lot higher than actual cost. Plus they usually come in really cute boxes or purses that make them even more attractive. My gift to all you readers is finding the best gift sets at the most reasonable prices. I’ll give you my top three picks.

My favorite gift set continues to be by Too Faced called World Domination Tour All Access Backstage Beauty Collection ($150 value priced at $34). It comes in the shape of a jewelry box and when wound plays music and a ballerina dances. Besides the packaging (which is awesome), it has some really nice items. The best piece in it is the duo bronzer that sleekly pulls out from the side. So get for your 13 year old cousin or your 25 year old friend. Both will love equally. Too Faced makes many great sets. This one rules but definitely check out the others too.

Another product, despite its amateurish name, that makes a perfect gift is Sephora’s new My First Makeup Kit Deluxe Sampler. At $32 you will receive, among many others, Tarte Cheek Stain, Lorac shadows, Korres Deep Colour Mascara, Smashbox Gloss. It has anything you could have ever dreamed. Also enter promocode HOLIDAYSHIP and this product will ship for free.

And finally there is the Kat Von D’s Painted Love Lipstick Gift ($54 value priced at $34). By the lipstick names you know you can’t pass it up; Homegirl, Hellbent, and Lolita. The Lolita is a little hard to pull off as it’s a deep deep wine but it’s worth a shot. And J if you’re reading, don’t buy. Someone may have already ordered this for you. Just saying.

Look for the gift icon in the upper right corner of sephora.com. Keep in mind online orders over $50 ship for free. AND sign up for Sephora’s Beauty Insider Card. With each (online and in store) purchase you rack up points toward free gifts. Go get.
